Clarissa Lins participates in SustainAbility Webinar
During the discussion, Clarissa claims that companies will be remembered by society for their actions during the coronavirus pandemic
Founding partner at Catavento, Clarissa Lins was invited to be one of the speakers at the SustainAbility Webinar, “Covid-19. Sustainability. What’s next?”. The discussion revolved around the immediate and increasing impacts of Covid-19 on companies and society, and included the participation of Aron Cramer, President and CEO at BSR; Solitaire Townsend, Co-founder of Futerra; and Clarissa Lins, founding partner at Catavento. Mark Lee, Executive Director at SustainAbility and partner at ERM, was responsible for moderating the debate.
The panelists joined in from different regions of the world, reflecting their concerns with local responses to the virus. Clarissa expressed concern over disproportionate impacts faced by the 40% of Brazil’s population which works informally in the service economy and, therefore, has their income strongly impacted by social distance.
Throughout the debate, the speakers were questioned on the responses to Covid-19 and the measures required in addressing climate change. The speed of impact was identified as the main difference between them. Nonetheless, lessons that emerge from Covid-19 can be applied to the climate change context, including the need for coordinated action and planning.
Lastly, upon reflection on a world post coronavirus, the panelists indicated that time will still be needed to fully comprehend the virus implications on society and companies. Clarissa suggested that society will reorient how it values different goods and services and that companies will be judged on the way that they interact with their employees, clients, and community.
