The Energy and Infrastructure Programs were responsible for knowledge production based on the events conducted in 2018
In 2018, Catavento promoted in partnership with CEBRI – Brazilian Center for International Relations – a series of events with the objective to stimulate the dialogue between different stakeholders and decisions makers. Clarissa Lins, Senior Fellow of the Energy and Infrastructure Programs, contributed directly to these events, moderating and consolidating in white papers the key insights discussed.
These events aimed to debate the most prominent energy and infrastructure topics counting with the expertise of thought leaders and experts. You can find bellow more information regarding the events and the links to download the 08 publications:
Energy Program:
Event 01: The event – “The energy future and the role of energy planning” – was held in March 05th. Luiz Barroso, former EPE president, and Hugo Nunes, regulatory superintendent at Neoenergia, debated energy global trends and its implications to the Brazilian scenario. Clarissa Lins, CEBRI’s Senior Fellow and Catavento’s founding partner, moderated the event, followed by a round of Q&A with the audience.

Event 02: The event – “Energy transition and climate challenges” – was held in April 05th by Total, a global energy company, in partnership with CEBRI and Catavento. The debate included Patrick Pouyanné, global CEO at Total, David Zylbersztajn, Partner at DZ Negócios em Energia, and Izabella Teixeira, CEBRI’s Senior Fellow and former Environmental Minister. Clarissa Lins, CEBRI’s Senior Fellow and Catavento’s founding partner, moderated the debate and outlined main challenges and opportunities in this context.

Event 03: The event – “Electric Mobility: perspectives and challenges”- was held in June 15th. Jorge Camargo, CEBRI Trustee and coordinator of the Energy Program, opened the event by highlighting the importance of the debate in the global energy transition context. The debate included Marco Silva, Nissan Brasil’s CEO, Jerônimo Santos, Ipiranga’s Director of Retail , Paulo Maisonnave, Head of Innovation at Enel X, as well as Clarissa Lins, CEBRI’s Senior Fellow and Catavento’s founding partner, which in addition to moderating the debate, also outlined the context with main trends and challenges for the sector.

Event 04: The event – “Technology and digitalization in the energy sector”- was held in August 14th. Prof. Dr. –Ing Armin Schenettler, Senior Vice President for Corporate Technology, Research in Energy and Electronics at Siemens AG – and José Formigli – Forsea Engenharia’s CEO presented their views on challenges and opportunities for the energy sector. Prof. Dr. -Ing. Armin Schenettler explored how the energy transition is reshaping the power sector, emphasizing the role of technology and digitalization. José Formigli pointed out the main challenges faced by the oil and gas industry, illustrating the role of technology in promoting efficiency gains and new opportunities. The debate was followed by a Q&A section.

Event 05: The event – “Economic relations between Brazil and German: The energy geopolitics” – was held in September 4th by Konrad Adenauer Stigfung Foundation (KAS) in partnership with CEBRI and Catavento. Ambassador Rubens Ricupero and Franziska Hübner, representative of KAS in Brazil, opened the event. The panel – “Energy: cooperation opportunities between Brazil and German”, was moderated by Clarissa Lins, CEBRI’s Senior Fellow and Catavento’s founding partner. The panel included André Clark, President and CEO at Siemens Brazil, Virginia Parente, professor at USP Energy and Environment Institute and Ricardo Castanho, Director of Companies Internationalization and Business Development at the German-Brazil Chamber of Industry and Commerce (SP).

Position paper: In partnership whit CEBRI, Catavento wrote the paper – “The energy sector in 2022” – where were suggested guidelines with the objective to influence decision and policy makers. In this sense, the document is based on 05 (five) basic and fundamental principles, namely: (i) competitiveness – competitive market, with multiple actors and sources; (ii) governance and accountability; (iii) legal and regulatory certainty; (iv) an environment conducive to innovation; (v) commitment to emissions reduction.

Infraestructure Program:
Event 01: The event – “The new governance of regulatory agencies” – was held in April 2018. The debate included Claudio Frischtak, CEBRI Trsutee, Venilton Tadini, ABDIB’s Executive President, and Leticia Queiroz, Partner at Queiroz Maluf Advogados. André Clark, the Infrastructure Program’s coordinator and Siemens Brazil’s CEO, moderated the discussion. The main topics were related to the Brazilian regulatory environment, juridical instability and overall aspects of the 6.621/21 Law – “Regulatory Agencies Law”.

Position papers: In partnership whit CEBRI, Catavento wrote the paper – “Infrastructure in 2022” – where were suggested guidelines with the objective to influence decision and policy makers. In this sense, the document is based on 05 (five) strategies, namely: (i) to develop long-term planning; (ii) strengthen regulation and governance; (iii) improve the sector’s financing and investment capacity; (iv) promote competition among operators and (v) develop engineering and infrastructure 4.0.
