Facsheet #18 – The impact of AI and data on climate and energy transitions

May 2024

Incorporating AI into climate and energy initiatives has the potential to amplify emissions reduction across various domains such as power generation, transportation, and agriculture. Additionally, it can enhance adaptation and resilience strategies by refining prediction techniques and optimizing decision-making processes. Yet, addressing the heightened energy consumption associated with AI technologies requires a shift towards low-carbon energy sources to effectively yield environmental advantages. This aspect, along cibersecurity and the mitigation of social biases, should be one of the priorities in policymaking for artificial intelligence.
