CEBRI’s Energy Program coordinated, in partnership with Catavento, the event, ‘Mobility for the future: climate change and new technologies” on the 13^th of February 2020.

The event delved into the topic of urban mobility and its impact on climate change, highlighting the relevance of fossil fuels and individual vehicles in the current transportation system. The debate analyzed how technological trends, including shared and electric vehicles, may reconfigure the transportation sector in a global and national scale.

In conclusion, the debate pointed towards strategies for a more inclusive and efficient mobility systems that promotes less emissions and congestions. These strategies are based on three main principles: avoid, shift, and improve. They aim to stimulate profound changes in mobility through urban planning and efficient utilization of modes of transport.

The discussion was moderated by Jorge Camargo, Vice President of CEBRI’s Board of Trustees, and Clarissa Lins, founding partner at Catavento and Senior Fellow at CEBRI. The panelists for the event included Clarisse Linke, Executive Director at the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP), Suzana Kahn Ribeiro, professor at COPPE-UFRJ, Sérgio Jacobsen, CEO at Smart Infrastructure for Siemens Brazil, Seth Van Straten, South American Commercial Director for Air France-KLM, and Antônio Simões, Energy Executive Director at Raízen.
