- Top management workshop
In 2021, Fábrica Carioca de Catalisadores SA (FCC) conducted its Sustainability Week with the participation of external experts in the different pillars of the ESG agenda. In this context, Clarissa Lins, founding partner of Catavento, was invited to make a presentation to the leadership and other employees on October 4th on “ESG Agenda – corporate environmental performance”. To this end, the Catavento team conducted desk research to map the main ESG trends, especially in the environmental pillar.
The presentation conducted by Catavento focused on three main themes: (i) the new global context; (ii) energy and climate challenges; (iii) corporate environmental agenda. Clarissa Lins initially presented the global panorama, impacted by the emergence of Covid-19 and the intensification of the climate crisis. This scenario implies deep changes in the perception of risks in the business environment, increasingly aware of the influence of environmental, social and governance aspects. Later, Clarissa highlighted the main drivers of the ESG agenda, including public policies and vocal leadership, new ways of allocating financial resources, companies with clear positions and a more vocal civil society.
During the second part of the presentation, Clarissa focused on the topic of climate change, which is at the center of global discussions due to its increasing risks. In the US, for example, extreme weather events resulted in estimated costs of US$ 95 billion over 2020. In this context, she reinforced the relevance of the energy sector, responsible for more than 74% of global GHG emissions by activity. She presented the main scenarios of the International Energy Agency (IEA), which indicate deep changes in the way of generating, transporting and consuming energy.
Lastly, Clarissa analyzed how the environmental agenda has evolved in companies, especially in the different links of the O&G chain – upstream, midstream and downstream. In this sense, she highlighted the relevance and prospects of the industry’s main environmental themes – air, water and waste pollution. Clarissa then highlighted that this new moment represents an opportunity for companies to act more in line with society’s demands.
After the lecture, a Q&A session was conducted with the meeting participants.
“The consolidation of the ESG agenda represents a new way of acting, capable of broadening the vision of the business, strengthening pacts of trust and promoting new forms of relationship.” (Clarissa Lins)
