Constellation – New business models and governance structure (2023)

In 2023, Catavento was hired by Constellation to map low-carbon technologies that presented synergy with the O&G industry, as well as to identify opportunities for improvement in the company’s innovation and sustainability governance.

During the first phase of the project, Catavento mapped the evolution of low-carbon technologies in the global and Brazilian context. Additionally, it was conducted a benchmark analysis of companies in the O&G sector, including peers and service providers, with a focus on new business models. Internal interviews were also conducted with C-level members and the Board of Directors of Constellation, as well as external interviews with experts from the public, private, and academic sectors. Through these interviews, Catavento sought to capture perspectives on different technologies and identify potential opportunities for the company.

In the next phase, Catavento conducted another benchmark analysis focused on the governance of innovation and sustainability themes in selected companies in the sector. Based on the collected inputs, Catavento recommended to Constellation a new positioning in low carbon, considering the horizon from 2024 to 2030. This included ambition, strategic objectives, technological focuses, and an operating model. To support this planning, changes in the governance structure of innovation and sustainability were also suggested based on industry best practices. The recommendations were presented to the Executive Board and the Strategy Committee of Constellation.

Past projects

QGOG Constellation – Strategic planning (2017 and 2018)

In 2017, QGOG Constellation hired QGOG to conduct its strategic planning process for the period 2017-2022, based on Catavento’s strategic vision, trend analysis expertise, and analytic rigour proved in previous projects

The first stage of the project consisted in an external and internal business mapping, based on O&G supply and demand trends analysis, interview with more than 30 key stakeholders, and desk research. Afterwards, a SWOT analysis was developed with the objective to identify the company’s strengths and weakness in the face of threats and opportunities in the horizon. To do so, Catavento guided two workshops with QGOG Constellation’s managers. In the third stage, the strategic guidelines were developed, which was used as the basis for the 2017-2022 Strategic Plan and for the governance and management opportunities.
